Listen to Your Mother is a national storytelling event that celebrates all aspects of motherhood—whether you are a mother, have a mother, or need a mother, these stories bring people together. LTYM events are independently organized. To learn more about the Denver/Boulder events or find out about casting calls, follow Producers Stephanie Sprenger and Pam Moore on the Word to Your Mother Substack.
This will be my third LYTM show and it has been such an honor to be part of such a fabulous community. Women from all backgrounds have come together with our common thread: motherhood. Some of the stories are funny, others are poignant, and more still are honest about the frustrations that motherhood can bring. These shared experiences have brought us together in community in a way I never thought possible when I became a mom 18 years ago.
I didn’t have a healthy example of what motherhood should be, and I always felt ashamed to be open about it. When I became a mother, I found myself in spaces of shame that I wasn’t doing it right, or that somehow, my kid would be complaining to a therapist about me in her 30s like I did. I’ll be honest, she probably will, and I’m okay with that. At least she’ll have found the magic of therapy.
This community is open to mothers of all types, even those who aren’t mothers themselves. We’ve all experienced motherhood in different ways, and LTYM is the place where you will find connection.
